The Four Things That Slow a Job Down

Most delays we see are not machining problems. They are information problems that surface after the quote goes out.

01

Your model is a surface mesh, not a solid

STEP files exported from scan data or subdivision tools often arrive as open shells with gaps at fillets. CAM cannot offset a shell. We spend a day patching geometry, or send it back, and the schedule slips before a tool ever touches metal. A watertight solid model or a clean STEP export removes this entirely.

02

Tolerances are called out on every dimension

A drawing where all 60 dimensions carry ±0.01 mm forces us to plan every operation around the tightest callout, including datum faces that only locate a cover. Cost climbs and cycle time follows. Mark the functional fits and let the rest sit at general tolerance; the price drop is usually visible in the same quote.

03

Material arrives as a grade name only

7030 is not a standard aluminum grade. 304 and 316L behave differently after welding. When the RFQ says aluminum or stainless without a UNS or DIN number, we have to ask, and the reply can take two days. Name the exact grade and temper up front and the quote comes back correct the first time.

04

Finish is described as smooth or like the last one

Ra 0.2 μm and Ra 3.2 μm are both smooth to the eye and differ by a factor of sixteen in polishing time. Without a numeric finish callout or a sample part, we quote a middle value, then rework the number after the first article. Send the Ra range and any cosmetic notes with the RFQ.

How we work

From RFQ to Shipped Parts, Without Guesswork

Two people own your project from launch to delivery: a technical sales manager and a lead project engineer.

A Quote and a DFM Report Inside 12 Hours

Send a STEP or IGES file with material, quantity, finish, and any critical tolerances. Within 12 hours you get a price and a free DFM analysis that flags thin walls, deep pockets, sharp internal corners, and features that will need a second setup. Production can start within 24 hours of approval.

The DFM note is not a sales document. It lists the specific features that drive cost and tells you which ones matter. If a 0.5 mm corner radius on a 40 mm deep pocket is the reason for a long cycle, you will see that line before you place the order, not after.

Machines Matched to the Part, Not the Other Way Around

We run 127 high-precision CNC machines across three wholly-owned plants in Dongguan and Singapore, in 7,600 m² of floor space. That includes 16 simultaneous 5-axis machining centers, 12 four-axis mills, 27 three-axis machines, and 16 mill-turn centers. Parts up to 4,000 mm can be handled.

Small bracket or large housing, the machine choice follows the geometry. A Ø400 mm rotary table covers most round work on the 5-axis side. Long thin parts go to the 4,000 × 400 × 150 mm travel machines so they are not re-fixtured three times and lose position each move.

Choosing a process

Which Process Fits Your Stage

The same part can be made three ways. The right one depends on quantity, geometry, and what you plan to do with the results.

Services

What We Make

Ten service lines, one supply chain, one point of contact.

01

5-Axis CNC Machining

16 simultaneous 5-axis centers for contoured surfaces, undercuts, and parts that need one setup instead of four.

02

4-Axis and 3-Axis CNC

12 four-axis mills and 27 three-axis machines for prismatic parts, plates, and fixtures where 5-axis adds no value.

03

CNC Milling & Turning

Milling and turning under one roof, including 16 mill-turn centers for shaft and housing features on a single machine.

04

Rapid Prototyping

First articles in 3–5 days for fit checks, tolerance studies, and design reviews before tooling is cut.

05

Sheet Metal Fabrication

Laser cutting, forming, and welding for brackets, panels, and enclosures up to 4,000 mm.

06

Surface Finishing

Anodizing, plating, powder coating, bead blasting, and laser marking, with finish callouts verified against the drawing.

Why GreatLight

The Reasons Engineers Come Back

15Y

Machining since 2011

Fifteen years of quoting and cutting parts, across three wholly-owned plants and 7,600 m² of floor space. The process knowledge is in the building, not in a subcontractor's queue.

±0.005

Tolerance held, not promised

±0.005 mm (±0.0002 in) on controlled features, backed by in-process monitoring and a final inspection on every part before it ships.

12 h

Quote and DFM in half a day

A price and a free DFM report inside 12 hours of receiving a complete RFQ. Production can begin within 24 hours of approval.

1 pc

No minimum order quantity

One prototype or a 10,000-part run, quoted the same way. Prototype pricing does not require a production commitment.

4

Four certifications on site

ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016, ISO 13485:2016, and ISO 27001:2022 cover quality, automotive, medical, and information security.

FAQs

Questions Engineers Ask Us Most

How fast will I get a quote?

In most cases a quotation and a free DFM analysis come back within 12 hours of receiving a complete RFQ. Complete means a solid model or drawing plus material, quantity, finish, and any critical tolerances.

If a quote needs longer, we tell you why and when to expect it. We do not sit on an inquiry to buy time.

What file formats do you accept?

STEP is the safest choice. We also take IGES, X_T, native SolidWorks, and 2D PDF drawings. Every process depends on a good 3D CAD solid model, so a watertight solid beats a surface mesh every time.

If you only have a scan or a mesh, send it and we will tell you what needs rebuilding before machining can start.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

One part is fine. We quote from a single prototype up to 10,000+ part runs, and prototype work does not require a production commitment later.

Unit price drops as volume rises, mainly because setup and programming spread across more parts. The quote will show that curve if you ask for two quantities side by side.

What lead time should I plan for?

Most parts ship in 3–5 days after approval. Production can start within 24 hours. Our historical late-delivery probability is below 2%.

For tight-tolerance features, complex 5-axis geometry, or a finish like Ra 0.2 μm, add time for the extra operations. We would rather quote a realistic date than a fast one.

What are your shipping terms?

Our standard terms are Ex Works (EXW) for both prototyping and regular production. Once goods leave our premises, the customer handles shipping, customs clearance, and related fees.

We also offer Delivery At Place (DAP) by DHL Express air freight, where the customer remains responsible for import duties and international shipping charges. Tell us which term your finance team prefers and we will quote to it.

Do I have to pay import duty on prototypes?

There is no single answer. It depends on the destination country and the declared use of the goods.

For customers in the USA, prototypes used exclusively for development, testing, product evaluation, or quality control may qualify for duty-free import under US HTS 9817.85.01. Everywhere else, duty varies with the type of goods imported. Confirm with your customs broker before the shipment leaves.

Can you sign an NDA?

Yes. Uploads are secure and confidential, and we can sign a non-disclosure agreement when a customer needs that documentation on file.

Our factory policy already restricts design data to the people working on the job. The signed NDA adds a paper trail for your legal team.

Which certifications do you hold?

Four: ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, IATF 16949:2016 for automotive, ISO 13485:2016 for medical devices, and ISO 27001:2022 for information security.

If your supplier approval process needs copies or scope statements, ask and we will send the current documents with the quote.
