Custom 3D Printing

Custom 3D Printing Parts

Prototypes and low-volume production in SLA, SLS and metal SLM. We also machine printed parts to ±0.005 mm when the fit matters, so you get a real part instead of a model.

Where printing goes wrong

Four problems we hear from engineers

01

The prototype fits, the production part does not

A print comes back smooth and accurate, then the injection-molded or machined version is off by half a millimeter. The cause is usually a print orientation or a shrink factor that was never checked against the drawing. We flag those before printing, not after.

02

The model looks right, the thread does not hold

Printed threads strip on the first assembly. Layer direction and wall thickness decide whether a boss survives torque. On load-bearing parts we print the geometry and cut the thread on a CNC, so the fastener sees metal or solid plastic, not stacked layers.

03

Quotes come back in weeks

One supplier holds the file for a week just to price it. Your design review waits on that number. We return a quotation and a DFM analysis within 12 hours, and production can start within 24 hours of approval.

04

Nobody can tell you the actual tolerance

Ask what the print will measure and the answer is a datasheet range. Layer height, orientation and post-machining all move the number. We state what your feature will measure and inspect the parts before they ship.

How we build them

Print the shape, machine the fit

Three processes on one floor, so the part you approve is the part you receive.

Process selection

Pick the process from the feature, not the habit

SLA builds fine detail and clear housings with a smooth surface. SLS gives nylon parts that snap, hinge and survive drop tests without a support structure. SLM lays down metal for brackets and manifolds that see real load.

The choice follows three questions. Does the part need to be transparent? Does it need to flex? Does it carry load? Answer those and the process picks itself.

Post-processing

Machining printed parts to a real tolerance

A print gets you the geometry. It does not get you a bore that takes a bearing or a face that seals. We take the printed blank onto the same CNC floor and cut the critical features to ±0.005 mm.

That covers bores, threads, sealing faces and datums. The rest of the part keeps the print's cost and speed. You get a functional prototype without paying for a full machined body.

Services around 3D printing parts

01

Custom 3D Printing

SLA, SLS and SLM parts from a single unit upward. No minimum order quantity, so a one-off bracket costs the same as a one-off bracket.

02

Rapid Prototyping

Printed and machined prototypes side by side. Use the print for form and the machined version for the fit check.

03

5 Axis CNC Machining

16 simultaneous 5-axis centers cut printed blanks or solid stock to ±0.005 mm on complex faces.

04

CNC Milling & Turning

Bores, threads and turned features added to printed parts, or cut from aluminium, stainless and titanium.

05

Vacuum Casting

Silicone molds from a printed master for 20 to 50 urethane parts with consistent color and finish.

06

Part Surface Finishing

Anodizing, plating, powder coating, bead blasting and laser marking on printed and machined parts.

Why GreatLight

Six reasons engineers send files here

15Y

Fifteen years on the floor

Working in metal and plastic since 2011. The process advice comes from parts that shipped, not from a catalog.

±0.005

Machining in millimeters

Printed parts move to the CNC floor for critical features. Bores and seal faces land at ±0.005 mm.

12 h

Quote and DFM in half a day

File in, quotation and manufacturability notes out within 12 hours. Production can start within 24 hours.

127

Machines under one roof

16 simultaneous 5-axis centers, 12 four-axis mills and 16 mill-turn centers. Printing and cutting stay in one building.

4,000 mm

Large parts too

Maximum processing size of 4,000 mm for long printed or machined parts that other shops split into sections.

ISO 4

Audited processes

ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2016, ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 27001:2022 cover quality, automotive, medical and data handling.

What we deliver

Parts by industry and what the job demanded

3D Print

Automotive & EV

Underhood brackets and connector housings. The job asks for heat resistance and a bore that takes a fastener.

  • SLS nylon
  • Printed bore cut to ±0.005 mm
3D Print

Medical Devices

Housings and fixtures for bench testing. Clean surfaces, tight mating faces, documented inspection.

  • SLA clear resin
  • 100% inspection before shipment
3D Print

Robotics & Automation

End effectors and gripper jaws. Light weight matters, and the mounting pattern must line up first time.

  • SLM aluminium
  • Ra 0.8–1.6 μm machined faces
3D Print

Electronics

Enclosures with internal ribs and connector cutouts. The print carries the shape, the CNC cuts the openings.

  • Laser marking from 1.5 mm
FAQs

Questions before you send a file

What file format do you need for a quote?

Send STEP or STL for the geometry, plus a 2D drawing or PDF for the features that matter. The drawing tells us which bore, face or thread needs to hold tolerance.

If there is no drawing, mark the critical dimensions in a note and we will confirm them before starting.

Can you combine printing and machining on one part?

Yes, and it is often the cheapest route. The print forms the body, ribs and internal channels. The CNC then cuts bores, threads, sealing faces and datums.

Machined features hold ±0.005 mm. The rest of the part keeps the print's low cost.

Which materials do you print?

Plastics include ABS, PC, PMMA, POM, PA, PEEK, PP, HDPE and carbon fibre. Metals include 6061, 316L, 17-4PH, TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Inconel.

Pick the material from the service condition, not the datasheet. A part that sees UV outdoors is a different choice from one that sees oil at temperature.

How tight is a printed tolerance?

As printed, tolerance depends on layer height, orientation and part size. It is not a fixed number, and any shop that quotes one number for every feature is guessing.

We state what your specific feature will measure. If that number is tighter than the process can hold, the feature moves to the CNC.

Do you have a minimum order quantity?

No. One prototype and a 10,000-part run both go through the same quote process.

Low-volume runs usually stay in printing or vacuum casting. Above that, we will tell you when tooling or machining becomes the cheaper path.

How fast can parts ship?

Quotation and DFM analysis come back within 12 hours. Production can start within 24 hours of approval, and parts ship in 3–5 days.

Printed parts with CNC features add machining time to that window. We confirm the schedule with the quote.

How do you handle confidential files?

Uploads are secure and confidential. We sign an NDA on request before any file review.

Data handling sits under ISO 27001:2022, and files are not shared outside the project team.

What inspection do printed parts get?

Every order is inspected 100% before shipment. That includes a raw material check, in-process monitoring and a final inspection.

Inspection reports are available on request. For critical features we report the measured value, not a pass or fail.
